Venue

The winter school will take place at Centre Paul Langevin, a charming resort in Aussois, at the heart of the Vanoise, a massif of the French Alps. It is located at 1500m, is frequently used for scientific events and allows for a large number of nature activities both with and without snow.

Physical address of the conference venue: Centre CNRS Paul Langevin, 24 rue du Coin, 73300 Aussois. Modane is the closest train station to the conference venue (11km away). We will provide a shuttle bus Grenoble ↔ Centre Paul Langevin to reach the venue. Information on its departure/arrival time will be provided closer to the school.

Travelling to Grenoble:

  • The closest airport is Lyon Saint-Exupéry, from where you can get to Grenoble in 1 hour by bus (Flixbus — every hour, ot Blablabus — several departures a day) or by train (https://www.sncf-connect.com/). Note that you should specify  “Lyon Saint-Exupéry” and not Lyon when searching for bus or train tickets.
  • Other possible airports are Geneva and Paris, both 3–4 hours from Grenoble.
    • To get to Grenoble from Geneva airport, you can use Flixbus or Blablabus (both offer direct buses several times a day), or train (https://www.sbb.ch/, you will probably have to make a connection in Geneva).
    • To get to Grenoble from the CDG airport in Paris, you can take a train (https://www.sncf-connect.com/), you will have to make a connection in Lyon or Paris (direct TGV Paris Gare de Lyon to Grenoble). 

Reaching Aussois on your own: You can also reach the school venue on your own, without using our shuttle bus. The closest train station to the school venue is Modane, which has direct trains to Turin, Milan, and Paris. You can check the train schedule at https://www.sncf-connect.com/. From Modane, you can take a bus to Aussois where Centre Paul Langevin is located. Beware that the bus between Aussois and Modane train station needs to be booked in advance (https://booking.altibus.com).
